I am Dr. Sue El-Hessen and I have devoted my career to helping students discover opportunities that change the course of their lives. That lifelong commitment is why I am running for the Cerritos College Board of Trustees, Trustee Area 3. As a former Cerritos College counselor and faculty member, I have walked alongside students as they balanced work, family responsibilities, financial challenges, and the pursuit of their dreams. I have also worked closely with faculty, staff, administrators, parents, unions, community volunteers, employee organizations, and elected leaders, gaining a deep appreciation for the shared responsibility of helping every student succeed.

 

 My previous service on the Bellflower Unified School District Board of Education reinforced my belief that governing is about far more than good intentions. Trustees must navigate limited resources, changing state mandates, competing priorities, and growing public expectations while making decisions that protect both today’s students and tomorrow’s opportunities. I believe effective governance requires integrity, sound fiscal stewardship, careful listening, respectful collaboration, and the courage to make difficult decisions that keep students at the center. Together, we can ensure that Cerritos College continues changing lives—one student, one family, one generation at a time. I'm ready!
